Latest update on Tyran Stokes’ decision timeline, NBA upside
By JAMES MADDEN
Experts around the recruiting world believe the long-awaited commitment of top-recruit Tyran Stokes is nearing, with ESPN’s Paul Biancardi speculating that Stokes’ decision could come after the Nike Hoop Summit.
“I think [his decision] is coming after the Nike Hoop Summit [April 11],” Biancardi said during ESPN’s coverage of the McDonald’s All-American Game.
Stokes’ original final list includes Kansas, Oregon and Kentucky, but Gonzaga and Washington have both made late charges in the recruitment of the Rainier Beach (WA) senior.
ESPN analyst Cory Alexander said that he believes Stokes is more offensively skilled at this stage of his career than some NBA All-Stars were during their high school days.
“I believe at this stage alone that Tyran is more offensively skilled than Scottie Barnes was at this time,” Alexander said Tuesday. “I believe that he is very similar to Cade [Cunningham]…When you look at Tyran…he’s going to be a point at the highest level”
Alexander also said he doesn’t believe Stokes is in a rush to commit and could wait until after most transfer portal moves happen.
“He’s in no rush….You may want to wait [for the portal to kick in],” he said.
Stokes’ decision may hinge on Kansas head coach Bill Self’s decision about his future, with retirement rumors circulating about the Hall of Fame coach since the Jayhawks’ elimination in the NCAA Tournament.
Stokes is the only player inside 247Sports’ top-ten recruits in the class of 2026 that remains uncommitted.
