Vanderbilt and head coach Mark Byington agree to long-term contract extension
By JAMES MADDEN
Vanderbilt and head coach Mark Byington have reportedly agreed to a long-term contract extension, per reports. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein first reported the agreement.
Byington just wrapped up his second season at Vanderbilt after four seasons at James Madison. He’s reached the NCAA tournament in both seasons with the Commadores and won his first NCAA Tournament game at Vanderbilt this season against McNeese, before being eliminated in the Round of 32.
His extension comes as North Carolina is in the midst of its coaching search, with Byington viewed as one of the lead candidates.
He led the Vanderbilt to one of its best seasons in program history, finishing the year 27-9 after beginning it 16-0.
The exact details for Byington’s extension have yet to be released, but the agreement makes a potential move to North Carolina a little less likely.
