Tom Izzo addresses retirement speculation
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ & ADAM ZAGORIA
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Michigan State’s NCAA Tournament run may be over after its loss to UConn in the Sweet 16, but Tom Izzo isn’t done giving it his all just yet.
“I’m feeling good. We’ll talk about retirement—why? What the hell am I going to do? The minute I don’t feel good, the minute I don’t feel like I’m giving my AD, president, or school every ounce of energy I have every day… you won’t have to worry about it,” Izzo said after Michigan State’s 67-63 loss to the Huskies. “I don’t steal money. I won’t steal anybody’s time. But it’s sure as hell not going to be now. I’ve got some things to accomplish.”
Izzo and his team have not been back to the Final Four since 2019. Next year, however, the Spartans will have a strong recruiting class. It’s currently ranked as the No. 2 recruiting class in the country featuring four-star prospects in Jasiah Jervis, Julius Avent, Carlos Medlock Jr. and Ethan Taylor.
“I said a couple of years ago that we’ll find a way to get back there,” Izzo continued. “We’ve knocked on the door twice we haven’t gotten back. We’ll get back.”
