March Madness: Brits in the 2026 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament
It’s that time again as March Madness swings around with the 2026 Women’s NCAA Tournament starting this week. And, there are four Brits flying the flag in the biggest college basketball showpiece.
Ines Goryanova – Baylor [6]
Friday, 20th March vs Nebraska/Richmond [11] – 6pm (UK time) – Durham, North Carolina
Redshirt freshman Goryanova made a long-awaited debut for Baylor this season after a long injury recovery. The guard – who previously played for London Lions in the WBBL before heading stateside – missed the first half of the season, before featuring in several games since the start of the New Year.
Baylor are the sixth-seeds with their first opponents to be determined by the winner of Nebraska and Richmond in the First Round.
Isi Ozzy-Momodu – Maryland [5]
Friday, 20th March vs Murray State [12] – 7pm (UK time) – Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Another player that has endured a long injury absence, Isi Ozzy-Momodu returned with a bang for the Terps. The CoLA product had a strong redshirt junior year with averages of 8.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Ozzy-Momodu had a best of 18 points during the campaign, with four double-doubles as a regular starter for Maryland. They take on Murray State in their opener, after an early loss to Oregon in the Big 10 Tournament.
Christabel Osarobo – Gonzaga [12]
Friday, 20th March vs Ole Miss [5] – 7:30pm (UK time) – Minneapolis, Minnesota
It’s a first appearance for Christabel Osarobo, but Gonzaga are very familiar when it comes to the Big Dance with fellow Copleston product Esther Little making multiple appearances in previous years.
Osarobo only averaged 5.8 minutes of playing time in her sophomore year, but had a season-high of nine points against San Diego in January, and celebrated winning the WCC Conference title – a year after winning the regular season title, alongside Little.
McKenzie Mathurin – Michigan [2]
Friday, 20th March vs Holy Cross [15] – 9:30pm (UK time) – Ann Arbor, Michigan
Highly-rated McKenzie Mathurin was part of the GB Senior camp in the lead up to EuroBasket last summer, and has had a steady freshman year with the Wolverines. The guard had a season-best of 15 points at Penn State in January – reaching double digits in scoring on three occasions.
Second-seeded Michigan’s opponents in the First Round are Holy Cross, who denied Leia Edwards and Lehigh in the Patriot League Conference Championship game.
Meanwhile, there are other British players in post-season action. In the WNIT, Leia Edwards (Lehigh), Issy Bunyan (Montana State) and Molly Lavin (Drexel) are all involved, while Fatmata Janneh (Texas A&M), Susannah Rafiu and Fliss Henderson (both Columbia) are set to compete in the WBIT.
Where to watch in the UK
All games from across the men’s and women’s tournament will be available to watch live on Disney+ with games also available on demand within 48 hours. A subscription starts at £5.99 per month in the UK.
