Coach K weighs in on Cam Boozer: ‘As good as any freshman that’s ever played at Duke’
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
Duke has always been known for one-and-done freshmen go on to have long NBA careers.
But to legendary former head coach Mike Krzyzewski, the star freshman who plays at Cameron Indoor Arena this year is as special as any of the ones from the past.
“[Cam Boozer’s] the best [freshman]… To me, it’s not close,” Coach K told The Field of 68 on Monday. “This kid is so dependable, so poised… He’s had as good a year as any freshman that has ever played here at Duke”
That is some statement considering last year’s freshmen class was led by future No. 1 NBA Draft pick Cooper Flagg, a generational player who is this year’s favorite for NBA Rookie of the Year honors.
Boozer is leading the way for No. 1 Duke, which holds a 27-2 record on the season, and is arguably the best amongst a historic freshmen class this season.
The 6-foot-9 forward is averaging 22.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this season.
Boozer is also the odds on favorite to win the Wooden Award as the nation’s top player for the 2025-26 season.
