St. John’s wing Ian Jackson in a boot after ankle sprain

By JAMES MADDEN

St. John’s starting wing Ian Jackson is currently in a walking boot and will miss Saturday’s game against Creighton due to an ankle sprain, head coach Rick Pitino said on Friday. He injured the ankle in Wednesday’s win against Marquette.

Jackson has started in 19 of 26 games for the Red Storm and is averaging 10.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game this season. The transfer from North Carolina and former five-star recruit has become a crucial part of St. John’s rotation, who is ranked No. 17 in the nation.

“He’s got a pretty good ankle sprain. He’s in a boot from the other night. He showed a little toughness, went back and got re-taped and played through pain,” Pitino told reporters.

With Jackson set to miss Saturday’s game against Creighton, and his status for next Wednesday’s trip to No. 5 UConn unknown, St. John’s will likely turn to Joson Sanon or Dylan Darling as viable options to replace Jackson in the starting lineup.

The Red Storm are 21-5 this season and 14-1 in the Big East, which is good for first in the conference, entering Saturday’s meeting with Creighton.
