Kansas’ Bill Self on Big 12: ‘Our league is a bitch’
By JAMES MADDEN
Kansas suffered its second Big 12 loss of the season on Saturday, losing to West Virginia 86-75 in Morgantown. The Jayhawks, who are finally fully healthy, fell to an overall record of 11-5 with the loss.
With seven teams ranked in the AP Top 25 as of January 11, the Big 12 once again looks like the premier conference of college basketball. Kansas head coach Bill Self was asked about the competitiveness and gauntlet of a schedule Big 12 teams face following Saturday’s loss.
“First of all, our league is a bitch. The way that I see this is, it isn’t that we can’t have a terrific team, the one thing that we have to know is… the margin for error isn’t like it used to be,” Self told reporters postgame. “We’re not bringing pros in off the bench. That’s not an excuse, because the guys out there are good enough… But the margin for error isn’t one where we can let teams believe they can beat you.”
The Jayhawks will have another difficult test this week, when they host unbeaten Iowa State on Tuesday, who will likely move to No. 2 in the country in the new AP Poll on Monday, following Michigan’s loss.
