Kansas’ Darryn Peterson suffers more cramping issues in win on Tuesday

Kansas star freshman Darryn Peterson has possibly his best performance of the season on Tuesday, a 104-100 overtime win against TCU for the Jayhawks on Tuesday. Having dealt with numerous hamstring, quad and cramping issues this season, Tuesday was the healthiest Peterson has looked since Kansas’ opening night win over Green Bay.
The future top-3 pick finished with 32 points, six rebounds and three made threes in 32 minutes. In addition to his incredible night, Peterson knocked down game-tying free throws at the end of regulation after being fouled by Jace Posey on a three-point shot attempt.
These free throws came minutes after Peterson apparently checked himself out of the game with an apparent limp, signaling more cramping issues, which Kansas head coach Bill Self later confirmed.
“He started cramping again…. For five seconds (at the end of regulation) he could suck it up, but after he made the free throws, he said ‘Okay, get me out,” Self said postgame. “He’s a special talent, but we don’t know how to play with him yet.”
With the win, the Jayhawks avoided falling to 0-2 to start Big 12 play, something they haven’t done in 35 years and Bill Self avoided allowing Jamie Dixon to become the first opposing head coach to beat him twice in his career at Allen Fieldhouse.
Kansas will be back on the road for a meeting with West Virginia on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
