Ole Miss commit Jaron Saulsberry talks future, role
BY ZACH SMART
As an oft cutting and athletic 6-foot-7, 195-pound wing, Jaron Saulsberry possesses a game predicated on uniqueness on both ends of the floor as a big guard/wing.
The Ole Miss signee, on a Wheeler (GA) HS team teeming with Division-I bound talent, is able to sit down on guards and also apply a physical brand of one on one defense. He is known for his vertically explosive finishing with either hand.
He has developed legitimate ball tracking skills while using his length to impact the game in a variety of ways.
We caught up with Saulsberry following City of Palms, gathering his feelings about Ole Miss and continued grind as he plays out his senior season.
On choosing Ole Miss
“Just the fact that theyve been with me through thick and thin, that was a key factor (in my decision). They made me feel like family. Like I had gotten there already and was already part of the program. They treated me the same way after my bad games as they did after my good games.”
On Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard
“Really, he’s just a winner. He wants to win. Coach really saw that through my game, how much I value winning and how hard I want to win.
Being an elite cutter, pushing the ball up the floor, I felt that their style fits with the way I play. I think just playing defense is how I am going to keep myself on the floor playing for (Beard) as a freshman.“
On Team Goals At Wheeler
“I mean, every team wants to win a state title. We have the same mentality. Really just to win a state title is one of our goals. Our goal is also to win a national championship. We really all just come together and play our hardest. One by one, we are really not trying to think too big or too small this season.”
On Guarding (6-6, 235-pound UConn-bound wing) Colben Landrew in practice:
“It’s a difficult challenge. Iron sharpens iron, though. His half court game is really good. I feel like I am making him better by being physical, allowing him to play through the hacks.”
