The NBA announces new All-Star game format
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
The NBA All-Star game has struggled to maintain the interest of audiences and players in recent seasons.
In an effort to bring excitement back to All-Star weekend the league has announced a new format centered around the games best American and international players going head-to-head.
There will be three teams, with each team consisting of eight players, two U.S. teams and one international team.
The three teams will compete in a round-robin tournament of four 12-minute games.
The selection process remains the same with the exception of positions no longer being a factor. Five starters from each conference will be voted on by a combination of fans, players, and media. Seven reserves from each conference will be voted on by the league’s coaches.
If the selection process does not yield 16 U.S. players and 8 international players then the NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, will select additional All-Stars to meet the team requirements.
The 2026 NBA All-Star game will be hosted by the Clippers at the Inuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. The game will be broadcasted on NBC/Peacock on Sunday Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. ET.
