Troy native Imahri Wooten commits to Rutgers men's basketball
TROY, NY (NEWS10) -- Redemption Christian Academy senior Imahri Wooten is more than just a basketball star. He holds a 4.0 GPA at the school his grandfather founded; where his grandmother is the principal. On Friday, Wooten's hard work both on the court and in the classroom paid off.
Wooten announced his commitment to the Rutgers men's basketball team in front of friends and family at the Redemption Church Pathfinder Center. "It was really, really special seeing my cousins and my grandmother and all my teammates here to support me," said Wooten.
Wooten had 30 Division-I offers including Syracuse, St John's, and Auburn just to name a few. The four-star is ranked 85th on ESPN's list of the top 100 players in country.
Wooten said the decision ended up being an easy one by the end of the process. "It was really just the coaching staff," said Wooten. "I really like the coaching staff. It seemed like a family environment and somewhere I could really grow. The day I left my visit, I kind of knew that I was going to go there."
Wooten has one more season to play at Redemption Christian Academy.
