Three schools emerge with four-star guard Jermel Thomas closing in on decision

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Class of 2026 four-star guard Jermel Thomas will be making his decision “before September,” his father, Karriem Thomas, told ZAGSBLOG.

The 6-foot-3 point guard out of Our Savior Lutheran (NY) has been a standout on the Under Armour circuit this summer for the Riverside Hawks. He averaged 11.2 points, 3.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds and particularly took his game to the next level in July, having several big-time performances in front of college coaches during the live periods.

“I’m having a blast with summer so far,” Thomas told ZAGSBLOG. “You’re definitely seeing Magic Mel. Passing, having fun, smiling, scoring and defense.”

Thomas said his speed separates him from other prospects. He excels as a downhill driver and making plays off the dribble.

“My shooting got way better, and I can pass,” Thomas said. “That’s why they call me Magic Mel. I pass like Magic Johnson.”

Three programs are out front as Thomas approaches his decision: Providence, Seton Hall and St. Louis. He plans to visit St. Louis in early August, but no exact date has been set yet. He previously visited Providence in April 2025.

Here’s Thomas’ breakdown of the three schools he’ll be picking from:

Providence:Corey Wright and Kim English, they love my game. I got to visit them again soon. [I like] everything. They showed me around, I met the players. I thought the players weren’t gonna talk to me because they’re older, but they were really talking to me. I had fun with them. Kim English, he’s very competitive.”

St. Louis: “They like how fast I play in transition and they like my motor. I got a high motor, I’m very competitive.”

Seton Hall: [Shaheen Holloway] is a New York guy. His energy is New York, it’s always high. I don’t really know a lot so far. I got to go visit there soon to really know about it.”

Thomas is looking for a school that lets him play his game and have fun. He is ranked the No. 130 overall prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports.
