Manchester Basketball to compete in ENBL
Manchester Basketball have announced they will be competing in the European North Basketball League (ENBL) for the 2025/26 season.
Following on from the BBF’s refusal to endorse them for the Basketball Champions League Qualifiers, the club has taken the ENBL route instead, making it the first time since the 1990’s a professional Manchester basketball franchise will represent the city on the continent.
“Being able to bring European basketball to Manchester has been an ambition of ours since taking over the franchise less than a year ago,” commented owner Ben Pierson.
“There is such a thirst for sport in this vibrant city and we are really pleased to be able to see our side represent both the city and British Basketball on the European stage.
“We would like to thank both the ENBL and MCR Active for their commitment to growing the sport we love and for their support of our franchise.
“We continue to execute on our vision to make Manchester Basketball a top team in the UK, and throughout Europe. This is a major step forward. We are excited to see how our amazing fans embrace the competition.”
Newly-announced clubs in the competition so far include fellow British side Bristol Flyers and Belgian powerhouse Brussels Basketball who MCR face in pre-season, alongside the 2025 German Cup Winners Syntainics MBC from Weissenfels Germany, and 7x Austrian Champions Hefte Helfen Bulls.
Returning ENBL Champions CSO Voluntari of Romania, Dutch side Donar Groningen, BK Opava of Czechia, Fyllingen Lions from Norway, Polish side Dziki Warszawa and the 2x Bulgarian Champions Spartak Pleven will also compete.
Last year Newcastle Eagles finished runners up in the competition, though whether they are re-entering this year remains unannounced.
The ENBL draw for the Group Stages will take place later in the summer, with the full schedule confirmed shortly afterwards.
