SEC Coach Praises Duke’s Jon Scheyer

Well that’s awfully nice of him.

Well this is pretty interesting - Auburn’s Bruce Pearl has some very positive words for Jon Scheyer.

This came after Scheyer got emotional talking about how Tyrese Proctor, who had some hard times at Duke, overcame them and ultimately emerged as a very skilled player who racked up 35 points vs. the Sacramento Kings in summer league play.

Here’s what Pearl had to say:

“Proud of Jon here! We were at the NBA Summer League and watched Tyrese demonstrate the rewards of being ready rather than just being drafted. Auburn basketball had 6 guys here, 5 with degrees and all with championships. They were all prepared and ready for what’s next as AuburnMen.”

Obviously he’s promoting his own program as well, but it’s still very cool that he was willing to praise a rival in these terms.

It may well turn out that Proctor, like Kyle Filipowski, makes the NBA regret letting him slip to the second round. Obviously Cleveland thinks so - not every second round pick gets a multi-year contract.
