Simu Liu Names Dream Marvel Basketball Team Ahead of 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Simu Liu quickly became a rising star in the superhero world, as fans offered high praise for his movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Now, Liu is set to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the highly anticipated 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday.
While excitement for the next Avengers is high, even with nearly a year and a half of waiting ahead, the good news is that filming is underway. Liu has made sporadic appearances in recent months, in the build-up to filming for Avengers: Doomsday, and has also conducted various interviews along the way.
The latest conversation took place at the ARC World Festival, ahead of the ARC Hoops event, when he spoke with former NBA guard Jeremy Lin during an interview with Etalk.
The conversation naturally included a little basketball talk, as Liu plays, and he was asked to name his starting five of Marvel superheroes.
While Liu's first two choices at center and power forward weren't all that surprising, he did have a tougher time nailing down his final three starters.
"Hulk at the five ... Ruffalo, but like in the other form, not Ruffalo as himself, I don't want that on a basketball team," Liu joked. "Thor at the four, solid power forward, tall dude, God of lightning."
Before kicking around who he'd put at the two (shooting guard) and three (small forward), he tabbed himself as the point guard.
"We probably need some quicker people at the two and the three. I'd put myself at the one just because that's pretty much probably the only position I could play. [I'll] say Quicksilver at the two ...Captain America [at the three] because he never gives up."
To summarize, Liu's Marvel dream basketball team would feature a starting group of:
- Center: Hulk
- Power forward: Thor
- Small forward: Captain America
- Shooting guard: Quicksilver
- Point guard: Himself (Shang-Chi)
That's a solid group, and with a front-court featuring Hulk and Thor, Liu's team wouldn't lack size or power in the paint. Although the Marvel hoops squad could run into some foul trouble, here's hoping he has a solid second unit lined up.
