Eric Dixon is dealing with a foot injury that ended his Summer League campaign before it even began with the Lakers.

Even during Summer League basketball, health is far from guaranteed. The Lakers don’t have their top draft pick Adou Thiero, who is out with a foot injury and now Eric Dixon will also be out, as he deals with a foot injury.

It was reportedly earlier that Dixon signed with the Lakers on a two-way deal, but Dan Woike of The Athletic is stating that he hasn’t officially done so.

Dixon is with the Lakers during Las Vegas Summer League. He was seen in a walking boot and riding a scooter to avoid placing any pressure on his right foot.

Prio to the draft experts felt the Lakers could take Dixon with the No. 55 pick. However, Los Angeles traded up to the No. 36 spot and selected Thiero. Dixon went undrafted, and the Lakers brought him onto their Summer League roster.

Unfortunately, his Summer League ended before it began, and we’ll have to wait and see what the severity of his injury is. These games are a way for players to make their mark and teams to assess their talent. Dixon being ruled out robbed him of an opportunity to showcase his skills.

At Villanova, Dixon was utterly dominant. He averaged 23.3 points per game, which was the most in the NCAA last season. Dixon ended his collegiate career with 2,314 career points placing him as the all-time scorer in the progam’s history.

This past season, Dixon started in all 35 games he played for the Wildcats and was named a Third Team All-American. With his size and scoring ability he is an intriguing prospect for the Lakers to bring to their franchise.

We’ll see if he ends up signing that two-way deal with the Lakers and if he’s healthy and ready for training camp.

For now, the Lakers will continue their games in Las Vegas without him. The Lakers lost to the Mavericks in their first Summer League matchup in Nevada and have three more contests to play at a minimum.
