WNBA guard, waived 3 times this season, signs rest-of-season contract
Haley Jones signs with the Dallas Wings — again.
It’s been a whirlwind season for Haley Jones, who was first waived by the Atlanta Dream in May. Jones, who was drafted by the Dream in 2023, had spent her entire WNBA career in Atlanta until that moment.
In June, Jones signed with the Phoenix Mercury, but that stint only lasted a week before she was waived.
A few weeks later, she signed with the Dallas Wings, but despite a productive stint in which she averaged 13 minutes in three games, she was released on June 28th.
The WNBA’s 12-player roster limit oftentimes creates situations where players are repeatedly waived, then re-signed when teams suffer injuries or players temporarily depart for overseas commitments. This season, Jones has embodied the hardship contract journey perhaps better than anyone in the WNBA.
Now, the defensive-minded guard gets another opportunity in Dallas, as the team announced they were signing her to a rest-of-season contract on Wednesday. That night, she played 15 minutes in a loss to the Chicago Sky, posting 4 points, 1 steal, and 1 assist.

Across 87 career games, Jones has averaged 3.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 15.9 minutes. She’ll bolster a backcourt that has been led by rookie star Paige Bueckers, four-time All-Star Arike Ogunbowale, and last year’s Most Improved Player, DiJonai Carrington. The Wings are 6-15 this season, owners of the second-worst record in the WNBA.
