Teen with stab wounds charged in Albany basketball court fight

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A 17-year-old male is facing robbery charges after an incident at the basketball courts near Eagle and Warren Streets. According to the Albany Police Department, the male charged was found with stab wounds to his stomach and arm.

Officers responded to the basketball courts around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, for reports of a large fight between teenagers. Upon arrival, police separate the kids and learned one teenager was stabbed and left the scene before police arrived.

That teenager was later found near Morton Avenue and Elizabeth Street and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

After an initial investigation, police reported the teenager with the wounds, and another male allegedly approached two other people at the courts, implied they had handguns and demanded their property.

Police said one of the victims attempted to walk away from the incident, but a fight broke out between the four. During the fight, one of the robbery victims reportedly pulled out a knife in self-defense and stabbed the alleged robber in the arm and stomach.

According to officers, the alleged robber with stab wounds was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and four counts of second-degree robbery.

According to officers, the victim sustained a defense wound to his finger and the person he was with sustained an injury to the back of his head after allegedly being hit with a handgun.

Both were transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the teenager charged is expected to be arraigned in Albany Family Court Wednesday afternoon. According to officers, the investigation into the case remains ongoing.
