CMBC to face SBB, Ruby to play Diamond in Pro-Am Finals

0 1

Week 4 of the 2025 Hoopsfix Pro-Am Summer League brought semi-final action to Brixton Recreation Centre, as teams battled for a place in next week’s finals.

In the first women’s semi-final, Team Ruby remained unbeaten with a narrow 49-45 win over Team Emerald in a tightly contested affair that went down to the wire. Both teams traded baskets throughout, with neither side able to build a significant lead. Ruby were once again led by Yazmin Edwards, who delivered a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, including the game-sealing shot in the final moments. The result sees Ruby improve to 4–0 and book their spot in the women’s championship game.

The second semi-final saw Team Diamond eliminate Team Sapphire 59–54 behind a strong showing from their core trio. Chinwe Iwunze impressed with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Helene Trailin added a dominant 16-point, 15-rebound double-double and Kat Goldsby contributed 15 points and 3 assists. The three combined to outlast Sapphire, who were led by Modiegi Mokoka’s 13 points and 6 rebounds, and WNBL D1 MVP Lindsey Cleary with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Diamond’s advantage on the boards (51–38) and disruptive defence proved key, as they advanced to the final to face unbeaten Ruby.

In the men’s classification round, Team Jet produced a dominant 73–38 win over Basketball Nxtion behind a standout debut from Bristol Flyers guard Jonathan Brown. Brown finished with 28 points on 66% shooting, alongside 3 rebounds and 2 assists, setting the tone early with a series of highlight plays. Joshua Apple added a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double, and Jordan Lewis had 13 points. Basketball Nxtion were limited to 32% shooting from the field and missed all 12 of their free-throw attempts. Joseph Richards led them with 13 points, while Abdul Wurie added 10.

Hometown Heroes took a 61–52 victory over FunctionAll in the day’s second classification matchup. Jai Pathmarajah led all scorers with 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Sam Akano chipped in 15 points and 3 assists. Tyler Mutemasango added 11 off the bench, and Sam Grant pulled down 6 boards. FunctionAll’s RJ Eytle-Rock and Callum Lawson scored 14 points apiece, with Eytle-Rock also grabbing 7 rebounds, but the Heroes pulled away in the third quarter and sealed the win with better shooting from three (7/17 to 3/15) and the free throw line (12/16 to 5/13).

In the first men’s semi-final, SBB maintained their unbeaten record with a 61–52 win over Hoopspace. Flynn Boardman-Raffet continued his strong campaign with a game-high 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Peter Asante added 15 points and 5 boards. Josh Steel played a key role at both ends, logging 8 points and 5 rebounds in 35 minutes. Hoopspace were led by Isaac Temilola, who posted 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Jamil Ako-Mensah, who added 12 points, but their struggles from the perimeter (2/17 from three) and the free throw line (4/9) proved costly. Despite a strong inside presence, SBB’s efficiency and control saw them through to the final.

The final game of the day saw CMBC overpower TMB with a convincing 81–58 win to secure their place in the men’s final. Johnny McKew led the scoring with 20 points, while Kyle Carey added 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in a balanced team effort. CMBC moved the ball well, finishing with 16 assists to just 9 turnovers, and shot 48% from the field. TMB were led by Ethan Price’s 17 points and Remy Udeh’s 10 points and 5 rebounds, but struggled with efficiency and discipline, shooting just 37% from the field and 1-of-12 from the free throw line.

Next week’s finals will see Team Ruby face Team Diamond in the women’s championship game, while SBB will take on CMBC in the men’s title clash. Tickets are available now.
