Class of 2026 prospect Austin Brown has committed to Maryland, per his Instagram page.

Brown, the 6-foot-7, 180-pound wing out of Lufkin (TX) and the JL3 Elite Nike EYBL AAU program, chose Maryland shortly after his official visit starting June 23. Brown previously visited Buzz Williams in January 2025 while he was at Texas A&M. He’s built a close with Williams’ staff, and it took one trip to College Park to seal the deal.

“My trust in Coach Buzz and his staff is due to his trust in me,” Brown told ZAGSBLOG. “He saw my potential from an early age and he never wavered. I truly believe that he sees my potential and what I can bring to his basketball program, and I’m so excited for that to be in Maryland.”

Brown describes himself as a shooter who can make plays for others and play great defense. His sharp shooting has really made him a threat from the perimeter, and he’s shown that on the EYBL circuit. So far this summer, Brown has averaged 6.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists across 11 games.

“I am a very versatile player that can play multiple positions,” Brown said. “I believe my size allows me to see the court and play make for others extremely well, while allowing me to score at all three levels. I definitely feel like my strength will be knocking down shots from around the arc.”

Brown is the No. 56-ranked small forward in the 2026 recruiting class and No. 142 overall prospect, according to 247Sports. He’s the first commit for Maryland out of the 2026 class. Brown’s favorite NBA player is Anthony Edwards, his favorite hobby outside of basketball is playing golf and he said he’s really good at math.
