Dallas Has Interesting Summer League Plans For Cooper Flagg

You may be surprised

Cooper Flagg is now a Dallas Maverick, or will be as soon as he signs his contract. And once that is taken care of, he’s going to be off to NBA’s Summer League and for Dallas coach Jason Kidd, that means it’s time to step into the lap. And what does that mean in Flagg’s case?

In Flagg’s case, it means he’s going to play point guard.

Saying that he wants to make Flagg “uncomfortable, Kidd plans to let him run the team in Las Vegas.

Here’s the full quote: “I don’t look at the position. I want to put him at point guard. I want to make him uncomfortable and see how he reacts (to) being able to run the show.”

“We want to push. And I think he’s going to respond in a positive way. It’s all right to fail. It’s all right to turn the ball over. We’ve talked about that.”

Summer League play starts on July 10th with Boston vs. Los Angeles and that’s going to be interesting because that likely means that Flagg is going to be going up against nepo baby Bronny James. Fun times ahead!

Back to the main question though: can Flagg play point?

Well, why not? He was functionally Duke’s point guard for most of this last season. Not to put James down, but we’d be worried if he was going up against, say, Jalen Brunson.

Like all rookies, he’s got a lot to learn, but being overconfident won’t be a problem, like it may be for his Montverde teammate Derik Queen, who said this: “I’m going to say, I don’t think nobody in that [2026] class is ever going to be better than me. So, I block all the noise out. He (Joe Dumars) got a lot of faith in me. Most of those guys, I beat on in high school.”

So whenever Dallas gets New Orleans is going to be fun.
