Amari Williams drafted with 46th pick in second round
Amari Williams is heading to the NBA after being selected with the 46th pick in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Orlando Magic picked Williams, Kentucky’s starting centre last season, but he ends up at the Boston Celtics as part of a trade deal.
He becomes just the sixth homegrown Brit to be drafted the last 25 years, joining Rob Archibald (2002) Luol Deng (2004), Joel Freeland (2006), Ryan Richards (2010) and Jeremy Sochan (2022).

Out of Nottingham, the former Mansfield Giant and Myerscough big man averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 blocks in 22.8 minutes per game while shooting 56.1 percent from the field in 36 contests for Kentucky, having joined for a lone season after an impressive four-year run at Drexel.
As a member of the Dragons, he won the Coastal Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year Award three seasons in a row, while leading the CAA in blocks per game each of those seasons.
Williams’ most noteworthy performance was in a loss at Ole Miss in February, recording only the fourth triple-double in Kentucky’s illustrious history.
At 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Hoopsfix understands there have been conversations with GB about playing at EuroBasket this summer, but will largely depend on his NBA situation.
