Congolese big man Paul Mbiya commits to Kansas
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
Kansas has secured an international big man for its 2025 recruiting class.
Congolese big man Paul Mbiya will play for the Jayhawks next season, he announced on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-11 big man with a 7-7 wingspan had originally signed with NC State for the 2025 season but later decomitted from the program.
“We’ve had a good last couple of days recruiting with Kohl (Rosario) signing yesterday and Paul today,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said. “Paul is big. He’s a legit 6-11 with a wingspan of 7-foot, 8 inches. He fits very well with the way we play. He is an immediate impact guy, and he gives us much-needed size to go along with Flory (Bidunga) and Bryson (Tiller).”
He played professional basketball in France for ASVEL in the EuroLeague. ASVEL is owned by NBA Legend Tony Parker.
The Kansas roster outlook for next season is now as follows:
- Returners: Flory Bidunga, Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell, Noah Shelby.
- Transfers: Jayden Dawson, Melvin Council, Tre White.
- Incoming freshman: Rosario, Darryn Peterson, Bryson Tiller, Samis Calderon, Corbin Allen, Paul Mbiya.
The Jayhawks had their sights set on a backup big man to round out their roster and made a big splash with a promising athletic prospect.
