He was going to be an asset wherever he went with his superb shooting but what a lot of people don't realize yet is just how smart of a player he is. This was best summed up this year when he grabbed Duke teammate Tyrese Proctor by the leg to keep him from falling out of bounds. It was smart, practical and possible and the only play he could have done to help, so he did it.
The main criticism he’s gotten is that he’s too slow and unathletic, but that’s what they said about Larry Bird, Chris Mullin and Luka Doncic. Well, his brain is pretty athletic. We have no worries about his success with
Here’s what Jay Bilas said about Knueppel:
“Knueppel is the best catch-and-shoot guard in the draft...He hit almost 41% from deep as a freshman in Durham, North Carolina, making 84 3s. Last season, Knueppel hit 48% on corner 3s, and canned 91.4% of his free throws. Kneuppel’s defense and physical tools are the questions. But though Kneuppel is unlikely to be named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Team, he isn’t a pushover and is always getting loose balls.”
He didn't say this but Knueppel gets a lot of those ball by diving on the floor. He’s a wonderful basketball player.
