Brotherhood Draft Watch: Flagg Workout Dazzles Dallas
When you have Flagg’s aura and you “exceed expectations” then things are going very well indeed.
You know that school of thought that held that Dallas might, in spite of having the potential to draft Cooper Flagg, might ultimately opt for a trade?
That was never going to happen. And after Flagg’s workout in Big D, if it did happen, Nico Harrison wouldn’t just get fired. He’d get fired out of a cannon. More like a howitzer.
Because Flagg apparently left a huge impression in his workout. He shot brilliantly. One source said “insanely well.” Another said “Cooper was unreal in his workout. He’s a complete beast.”
People always fall into the idea that pure athleticism is the most important thing and that’s not entirely wrong. There’s a video floating around the Internet of a guy playing brilliantly. In fact, he reminds one a bit of Larry Bird.
The catch? He’s about 5-10 and weighs at least 300 lbs.
Clearly, you have to be blessed with talent, but raw talent is not enough to be great. As former Davidson coach Bob McKillop said, basketball is a game of deception and the best basketball players have an immense intelligence for the game.
People will soon understand a few things more clearly than they do now. First, that Flagg has considerable physical talent. Second, that his ability to grasp the game and to adjust to whatever is in front of him, is off the charts. And third, Flagg is still 18. He won’t be 19 until December 21st.
In short, Dallas is about to have some fun.
