GB confirm final 12 for Women’s EuroBasket

0 4

GB have confirmed their 12-player roster set to compete at FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025.

The team arrived in Hamburg, Germany on Monday, where they will play in the group phase against Spain, Sweden and hosts Germany.

Inspirational leader Temi Fagbenle joins up with the group on a temporary leave from WNBA franchise Golden State Valkyries, with teenage Michigan recurit McKenzie Mathurin the final cut on the roster.

GB started prep in Manchester, before two defeats in Slovenia. Their tournament in Greece was disrupted by travel, but they managed to take on Lithuania – suffering another loss – before their final prep game against Serbia in Belgrade.

Alongside Fagbenle, four other players have previous experience at a EuroBasket tournament with Savannah Wilkinson, Hannah Robb and Holly Winterburn – fit again after surgery – all playing in 2023, while Cheridene Green featured in the historic semi-finals run in 2019.

Kitty Henderson is the new face in the squad following a successful college career at Columbia – winning multiple Ivy League titles. The 22-year-old was born in the UK before moving to Australia at a young age, and qualifies without being naturalised.

Sam Ashby has been one of the leading British players domestically over the past two seasons and is joined by fellow Oaklands Wolves double-winner Shanice Beckord-Norton. There are also inclusions for Caledonia’s Kirsty Brown, Shauna Harrison of Sheffield Hatters, SLB Young Player of the Year winner Katie Januszewska, and sharpshooter Hannah Jump, who is fresh off the back of a first year as a pro in Turkey.

GB’s squad in full is as follows:

Sam Ashby, Oaklands Wolves
Shanice Beckford-Norton, Oaklands Wolves
Kirsty Brown, Caledonia Gladiators
Temi Fagbenle, Golden State Valkyries (USA)
Cheridene Green, unattached
Shauna Harrison, Sheffield Hatters
Kitty (Catriona) Henderson, Columbia University (USA)
Katie Januszewska, Leicester Riders
Hannah Jump, Botas (TUR)
Hannah Robb, Caledonia Gladiators
Savannah Wilkinson, Elitzur Holon (ISR)
Holly Winterburn, Besiktas (TUR)

GB’s opening game against Spain takes place on Thursday, with the top two teams in the group heading on to Piraeus, Greece for the final phase.
