Duke and Boston Celtics fans were no doubt saddened by the injury Jayson Tatum suffered in Game 4 against the New York Knicks.

He underwent surgery very quickly to repair the tendon. As you probably know, this is a very serious injury that can end an athlete’s career. However, modern medicine has gotten much better at treating it and there are many techniques to treat an Achilles injury.

NBA great Kevin Durant, for one, recovered from his and has thrived in his mid-30’s, which not too long ago was unthinkable.

While we can’t know what exactly was done for Tatum, we do know that the surgery was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley, who performed the successful surgery on Durant.

And intriguingly, O’Malley has used something called the Speedbridge technique.

If you’re curious about what exactly that is, well, we were too and so we looked it up And being 2025, there’s a video.

It’s not something we can easily describe, so check out the link. And while it’s an innovative technique that has been used for NFL players, it’s not clear whether it has been used for anyone in the NBA.

If it is what O’Malley did and it works as expected, it could significantly cut the time Tatum is out.
