MESA, AZ — Five-star class of 2026 guard Dylan Mingo is clutch.

Mingo — the 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard out of Long Island Lutheran (NY) — willed the PSA Cardinals to a 3-0 record to open up the EYBL season. In the first game vs. Expressions Elite, PSA was down 48-46 until Mingo hit a 3-pointer to take the lead with 2:16 remaining. From there, Mingo controlled the game, scoring a few more times down the stretch en route to a 57-50 win.

Mingo finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and five steals in that first game vs. Expressions. And he wasn’t done there. On Saturday against Boo Williams, the point guard posted 15 points, five rebounds and five assists and followed that up with a 27-point, eight-rebound game vs. Team Durant on Sunday.

This summer, Mingo said he wants to show people he can be a great point guard and control the game. He’s off to a good start.

“I can shoot off the dribble,” Mingo said of his game. “I get to the basket. I can float. I can pull up. I can pass. And also pretty much being a defensive stopper.”

On the recruitment front, Mingo said he’s “wide open.” He’s being pursued by a plethora of schools and has double-digit offers. Missouri, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Kansas were all in to see Mingo during the high school season. The point guard named Texas, Auburn, Alabama and Illinois as other schools in the picture.

Mingo hasn’t taken any official visits yet and is looking to go on those later in the summer into the fall during football season. Below is Mingo’s brief thoughts on some of the schools involved:

Missouri: Dennis Gates, he actually came to see me in the morning before school. So that meant a lot. I just like the way he lets his guards rock out.”

Penn State: “Coach [Mike] Rhoades. He’s a great person. Ever since he’s been recruiting my brother really hard, he’s been trying to build a relationship with me too. It means a lot.” Mingo’s older brother, Kayden Mingo, is signed to play with Penn State next season.

Virginia Tech: “J.D. [Byers]. We went on a visit there with my brother, so I got to see the campus. It was really nice. Shows how much it was a family there.”

Louisville: “I speak the assistant coach [Ronnie Hamilton]. Pat Kelsey, he really gets it out of you and he coached my head coach, coach [John] Buck, in high school. So he talks about it a lot, how he just got everything out of him.”

Kansas: “I mean, they just got the No. 1 player in the country. I love the way they play, just system basketball. They always have a couple players who just rock out too.”

Texas: “New staff, Sean Miller. I mean, Texas is Texas. I feel like everybody wants to go to Texas. I haven’t got to visit there, but I love the way their guards play too.” Miller has reached out and offered since moving to Texas from Xavier.

Auburn: “Their guards are always crazy. Tahaad Pettiford, he came off the bench and still had a huge impact. So it just shows it doesn’t matter if you start, come off the bench, you can still impact the game.”

Alabama: “Labaron Philon, Mark Sears. They always have a bunch of great guards and they let it fly. So I feel like that would be a great place for me.” Assistant coach Preston Murphy mainly in contact.

Illinois: “Coach Orlando [Antigua]. They just had another freshman point guard too. That was amazing. I’m really big on letting freshman play, especially with the transfer portal.”

While Mingo would like to play right away, he still wants to earn his spot. He also mentioned having a great relationship with the coaching staff and earning trust will be important in his recruitment.

Mingo spent this past high school season playing with Long Island Lutheran under coach Buck. There, he said he learned how to lead and play with a bunch of great players.

“Dylan is one of the more winning players I’ve ever coached,” Buck told ZAGSBLOG. “Plays his heart out. He’s improved as much as any player I’ve seen from one year to the next… He’s so good on both sides of the ball. The sky is the limit for him. The amount of work he puts in, his raw ability on both sides, just how hard he plays — guys like him are the ones who play for a long time. Because he doesn’t stop working and he competes so hard. When you add in his frame and his abilities, we’re just starting to see the beginning of Dylan’s career.”
