A beloved figure, Blue Devil fans will miss him.

As you know by now, Khaman Maluach has declared for the NBA Draft, where he’ll almost certainly be a first round draft pick.

And of all of Duke’s recent NBA candidates, we’re happiest for Maluach. We don’t know a whole lot about his family, but most of us know that they are South Sudanese refugees, having left during the war there. And while admittedly we don’t know much about Malauch’s family, it’s a safe bet that most refugees are by definition struggling and most likely don't have very much.

Well, Maluach is about to be a wealthy young man, and obviously he’ll be able to look after his parents and the rest of his family which, as far as we’re concerned, is the feel-good story of the draft.

For his part, Jon Scheyer has commented on Maluach’s move, saying this:

“I’ve absolutely loved coaching Khaman, I’m gonna miss him every single day, he’s got the most contagious personality. He’s got an incredible skillset on the floor, being 7’2 - he’s got great timing, and ball skills are great ... for me, the separator is how hard he plays, how competitive he is and he’s not afraid of contact.”

Wherever he ends up, fans are going to love that guy.
