“I Freaking Hate JJ”
That quote is because JJ Redick is succeeding in LA.
Remember when JJ Redick was named the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers last summer and people mocked him, saying stuff like he had only coached pee wee teams and was unqualified? That he only got the job because he was LeBron James’s buddy?
They’re not saying that so much anymore.
Redick’s Duke coach, Mike Krzyzewski, has said all along that Redick was going to be a great coach and he added to that sentiment this week, noting some very interesting and innovative things the Lakers are doing on defense.
And that quote in the headline is from Minnesota’s Julius Randle, who seems like kind of a frenemy. Here’s something else he said in that interview:
“He was freaking annoying. But, man, he was a hell of a player, obviously hell of a shooter, but an underrated aspect of him — he was a competitor, man. He was annoying because he was so competitive and driven out there; he played with a chip on his shoulder, so I would imagine he’s going to coach like that as well.
“He’s going to be a helluva coach in this league.”
The banditry trade LA pulled off with the Dallas Mavericks to get Luka Doncic helped too, but even so, Doncic has never been a passionate defender. Well, Redick is getting the most out of #77 on both ends.
Is a championship in the cards? Maybe. Maybe not.
No one was talking about a championship last year though. Redick has been incredibly impressive.
