A tough loss for Duke women’s basketball

Well this is a definite hit for Kara Lawson’s Duke program: sophomore guard Oluchi Okananwa has entered the transfer portal.

She’s been a real force for Duke over the last two years, coming off the bench with a huge infusion of energy and intensity and she was particularly valuable in this year’s NCAA tournament.

There’s always the chance she could look around and change her mind and come back and we really hope she will. She’s been a pretty amazing player.

If she goes though, Duke will have some options. Riley Nelson should be healthy and ready to go and freshman Emilee Skinner comes to Duke with a glittering reputation.

Of course the portal works both ways and with players like Myaysia Fulwiley in the portal, it’ll take a while for everything to sort out. Let’s wait and see how things work out.
