Golden State basketball is on the way! Come join our game thread and chat about tonight’s matchup here.

The Golden State Warriors return to the Bay with Friday night’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00PM PT in San Francisco and can be watched on NBA TV and NBC Sports Bay Area.

Previously with the Warriors:

Golden State closed out their six-game road trip on a high note, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 123-116. It marked their fourth straight win and another strong showing against one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski led the offensive charge. Curry followed up his 52-point performance against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday with a game-high 37 points in Los Angeles. Podziemski was the team’s second-leading scorer, tallying 28 points behind a career-high nine made three-pointers—six of which came in the first half.

And while their box score stats didn’t pop, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler were key defensive anchors. Green, in particular, reinforced his Defensive Player of the Year candidacy with a clutch strip steal on Lakers point guard Luka Dončić late in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

What to watch for tonight:

There will be no rest for the weary Warriors. Despite just returning home from a six-game road trip, they must now finish off the second night of a back-to-back with Friday’s matchup against the Nuggets. According to head coach Steve Kerr, the team is not planning to rest its veterans, emphasizing the importance of every game as Golden State fights for playoff positioning.

Denver enters the matchup having just completed a back-to-back of their own—losing both games. In the first, Nikola Jokić delivered a career-high 61-point performance in a double-overtime thriller. However, he logged a grueling 53 minutes, prompting head coach Michael Malone to rest most of his starters in the following game, a 113-106 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Nuggets are expected to return their starters tonight, with the possible exception of Jamal Murray, who has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and is listed as questionable.

This game carries major implications in the Western Conference playoff race. The Warriors (45-31) currently sit fifth in the West, trailing the third-seeded Nuggets (47-30) by just 1.5 games. Golden State has been playing well on both ends of the court, but it will be interesting to see if they have enough energy to maintain their momentum in this pivotal Western Conference showdown.
