Warriors list Jonathan Kuminga as questionable for key game against Grizzlies
The Warriors young wing may be able to return to the floor in Memphis without missing a game.
The Golden State Warriors listed wing Jonathan Kuminga as questionable for Tuesday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. While Kuminga appeared to leave Sunday’s blowout of the Spurs favoring his left ankle, he is listed as dealing with a right pelvic contusion. Even if he is unavailable on Tuesday, it is easier to envision Kuminga making a quick return by avoiding a re-injury to the ankle that caused him to miss two months of action.
Kuminga is still trying to find his place in the Warriors post-Jimmy Butler trade rotation. The young wing was a central part of Golden State’s plan when they were stumbling through mediocrity earlier in the season. Kuminga was putting up the biggest numbers of his career when he sprained his ankle in January. However, the Warriors are not in the position anymore. The Dubs believe themselves to be title contenders and are hoping Kuminga can be a key role player.
Nevertheless, Kuminga has averaged 16.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season on more than 50.4% shooting from two and 31.9% shooting from three. The Warriors still lack players who excel as scorers and on-ball defenders, Kuminga has the tools to be a difference maker in both areas. Of course, the question is whether he will be able to consistently play up to head coach Steve Kerr’s standards.
