YouTube Gold: Highlights Of Duke’s 2025 Elite Eight Win Over Alabama
And what a win it was
Duke’s win over Alabama was convincing in a lot of ways but not least of all because of the defense: instead of closing late, Alabama just wilted as Duke expanded the lead from 65-58 with 8:03 left to a 20 point lead when it was over.
This is the team, remember, that just lit BYU on fire on Thursday. Duke did it with intelligent defense and offense and while the players are the ones who do that, as you’ll see on these highlights, let’s take a minute to consider what 37-year-old Jon Scheyer has accomplished in his three years.
He’s replaced perhaps the greatest coach in history, maintained the standards of the program and adapted to an entirely new era of college basketball. He’s just tied the Brads, Underwood and Stevens, for the most wins in a coach’s first three seasons, and he has Duke in the Final Four and not by an inch, either. Duke shredded one of the best teams in college basketball to get there.
Nobody’s forgetting Mike Krzyewski and what he accomplished, but look at it this way.
During his long reign, we always said that the most amazing thing about Duke was that the Blue Devils would lose great players and you’d wonder how they could ever be replaced. Then, by December, you wouldn’t wonder anymore. The train would just keep rolling.
Jon Scheyer has done that as a coach. Consider how completely insane that is.
