More Pitinos remain in the NCAA Tournament than ACC Teams
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
One of college basketball’s premier conferences has struggled in this year’s Big Dance, while one of the game’s premier names has flourished.
As March Madness moves forward it has left a majority of the ACC in the dust. Of the four ACC squads to make it to the tournament, only No. 1 Duke remains. While the ACC’s crown jewel hasn’t shown any slippage, overall it has been a disappointing tournament for the conference.
Meanwhile many may have expected the Pitino family to be holding strong with a representative at this point in the tournament, but it is actually two Pitino’s who continue to dance into March.
Rick Pitino and No. 2 St. John’s took care of business against Omaha on Thursday to ensure a matchup against John Calipari and Arkansas for a shot at the Sweet 16. What wasn’t expected was Richard Pitino and No. 10 New Mexico to upset No. 7 Marquette during Friday’s first-round matchup.
Two Pitino’s remain in the Big Dance while one ACC team is left standing.
This is March basketball.
