Brits in College Men | February/March recap

As the college basketball season comes to an end, British players across the U.S. continued to make their mark on the hardwood through February and March as regular seasons came to a close.

Let’s take a look at how the Brits in college fared this past month.

NCAA Division 1

Josh Uduje was on fire in February, putting up multiple strong performances. The Senior started off the month with a 24-point performance in a win over AFA. The guard then posted a season-high 30 points and 11 rebounds in a OT victory against Fresno State. He ended the month posting 29 points in a win over Wyoming and 27 points against UNLV.

Meanwhile, his teammate Latrell Davis continues his excellent Sophomore season. The guard recorded seven double-digits games across eight games throughout the month. His standout performance was a season-high 30 points, six rebounds, four steals and assists game against Fresno. San Jose State finished 8th in the Mountain East standings with a 6-12 record (13-17 overall).

Cam Hildreth was unstoppable in February. The Senior started off the month with three consecutive 20-point games leading Wake Forest three successive wins. The guard recorded 24 points, five rebounds and four assists in a win over Pittsburg, but his standout performance came against California as he tallied 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals while shooting 72.7% from the field (8-of-11). His performances earned him player of the week honours. The Demon Deacons dropped to sixth in ACC standings with a 11-6 record (19-9).

Though Virginia Tech secured only four wins across 10 games in February/March, Tobi Lawal delivered multiple notable performances. The Junior started off the month with a 17-point, five-rebound outing, then had a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. He then tied his season-high posting 23 points and seven rebounds in a narrow loss to Virginia. The Hokies ended the regular season 9th in the ACC with a 8-12 record (13-19 ovr). In the first round of the ACC Tournament, Lawal dropped an amazing double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. However, it was not enough as the Hokies fell to California in 2OT.

Amari Williams was on fire in February. Though Kentucky secured only four wins across eight games, the senior delivered multiple standout performances. The center started off the month with a dominant double-double (22 pts & 11 rbs), he then registered a triple-double (12 pts, 10 rbs & 11 asts) in a loss to Ole Miss. He also posted a perfect game in a win over Vanderbilt, tallying 17 points, six rebounds and four blocks, while shooting 6-of-6 from the field. He then ended the regular season with a 16 points, seven rebounds performance. Overall, he registered four double-doubles and one triple-double in the period. The Wildcats are 8th in SEC with a 10-8 record (22-11 ovr).

Washington State managed only three victories in eight games throughout the interval. In this period, Ethan Price posted multiple standout games. His best performance came in a win over San Diego, where he recorded 19 points, two steals, and two blocks. In the West Coast Tournament, he posted 22 points and five rebounds to reach the quarterfinal. He then registered 26 points and six rebounds but his side would ultimately fall at the hands of San Fransisco.

Despite all of Great Osobor‘s effort, Washington are still struggling to secure wins. The Huskies managed only three victories in 11 games. In this interval, the Senior had eight double-digits games, including three double-doubles. Osobor delivered an outstanding game in a win over Penn State tallying six points, 13 rebounds and a season-high 10 assists. He then recorded 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in a loss to USC. The Forward then ended the regular season with a 21-point outing.

Chudi Dioramma and Sacramento State managed only one win across 10 games in February/March. However, the freshman recorded multiple double-digits games off the bench in this stretch. His standout performance came in a narrow loss to Idaho, he recorded a season-high 19 points and six rebounds, shooting 9-of-9 from the field. The Hornets ended up last in the Big Sky standings with a 3-15 record (7-25 ovr).

While Oral Roberts struggle to add victories to their tally, Sam Alajiki is having a solid senior campaign. He had multiple double figures games including a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double performance in a loss against Denver, but his standout performance came in a loss to South Dakota as he recorded 18 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Eagles are 9th in the Summit standings with a 3-13 record (7-23 overall). Alajiki posted 12 points and six rebounds as the Golden Eagles fell to Kansas City in the first round of the Summit Conference tournament.

While UMBC managed only two wins across 10 games throughout the February/March, Louie Jordan recorded two double figures outings. The Junior netted 16 points in a tight loss to Bryant and then posted 15 points, shooting 5-of-6 from deep as the Retrievers fell to UMass Lowell. His side exited the America East Playoffs in the quarter-finals.

Luke Bamgboye and VCU only lost once across 11 games in February/March. The Freshman forward secured a starting role in late December and has since increased his impact on the team. His best outing of the season was a 17-point outing against Davidson, shooting 7-of-8 from the field. His teammate Michael Belle had his second best scoring performance of the season with eight points and five rebounds against Dayton, as Rams sit atop the A-10 standings with an impressive 15-3 record (28-6 ovr), and their side won the Atlantic 10 conference tournament and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, as Bamgboye contributed five points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Towson and Tomiwa Sulaiman had an almost perfect record across nine games, as they only lost to Elon where Sulaiman posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while recording five steals. His best scoring performance was a 15-point outing against William and Mary. The Tigers won the CAA conference with a 16-2 record (22-11 overall). However, the side will not take part in the Big Dance following their semi-final loss to Delaware in the conference tourney.

Tennessee State and Josh Ogundele secured seven wins across 11 games in the period. In this stretch, the center had three consecutive double-digit games, 13 points and seven rebounds against Lindenwood and a 10-point outing Eastern Illinois. His best outing came in the OVC Championship semifinal, in a tight loss to SIU Edwardsville, as he posted a season-high 19 points. The Tigers ended the regular season third in OVC with a 12-8 record (17-16 ovr).

Since the beginning of the month, Manie Joses has seen increased minutes with Davidson. The freshman has made the most of his opportunities, delivering a season-high 12 points and six rebounds in a loss to Loyola. His side lost to Saint Louis in the second round of the Atlantic 10 conference tourament.

James Okonkwo‘s Akron secured 10 wins in 11 games in February/March, starting the month on a six-game win streak. In this stretch, Okonkwo played a huge role on both ends of the floor. His best performance was against Kent State with an 11 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. He then recorded a second double-double as Akron defeated Buffalo. The Zips are 1st in the MAC and will play the NCAA Tournament after their win in the MAC Championship final.

Eduardo Andre netted 10 points off the bench in a narrow loss to TCU. West Virginia is 9th in the Big 12 conference and hold a 8-10 record (17-12 ovr).

Joel Armotrading tallied 10 points and eight rebounds as UC Riverside defeated Cal Poly. The center has been a key force on the boards for the Highlanders, leading the team with a solid 6.7 rebounds per game. Riverside are 4th in the Big West standings with a 12-6 record (19-11 ovr).

Sean Trumper, now in his grad year, is starting and averaging over 30 minutes a game for Merrimack and had four straight double digit scoring efforts in February, his best such streak of the season.

NCAA Division 2

Franklin Agu was fantastic on both ends of the floor with St Mary’s. The forward registered multiple double-digit games in rebounds and points in this stretch, including two double-doubles. The senior posted 18 points and nine rebounds in a win against Oklahoma Christian. He then dropped 11 points and 10 rebounds against Eastern N. M.. His standout performance came against Cameron as he recorded season-highs in rebounds (12) and points (27). St Mary’s hold a 19-8 overall record.

Finley Woodward delivered numerous strong performances in February with West Liberty. The junior started off the month tallying 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a win over Charleston. He then registered a season-high 22 points and seven rebounds in a victory against Frostburg St. The junior forward is now averaging 10.2 points per game.

Myles Hosten only featured in four games with Edward Waters in the month. It was enough time for him to drop an amazing 20 points and 10 rebounds double-double. The freshman is averaging 8.7 points and 5 rebounds per game.

Stephen Ovia started off the month strong with Wesleyan. The junior opened February with a 19-point outing in a win over Point Park. He then registered 12 points and seven rebounds against Wheeling, before posting 14 points against West Liberty. Wesleyan hold a 5-22 overall record.

Emmanuel Oladeru registered four double figures game throughout February. However, Davis & Elkins managed only two wins in eight games in the period, additionally, the Senators suffered a six-game losing streak. Oladeru’s standout performance came in a win over Frostburg St., the center secured a dominant double-double off the bench with 16 points and 11 rebounds. They hold a 10-17 overall record.

JUCO

Karyiek Dixon played a pivotal role for the Hornets in February. He posted posted numerous great performances, including a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Newman. His standout performance came against Pittsburg State as he recorded a season-high 29 points, adding five rebounds and 3 steals to his tally. He then posted a dominant 20 points and 15 rebounds double-double performance against Northwest Mo. State.

Bryan Akanmu had multiple double figures game, recording two double-doubles with Vincennes University. He posted 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in a win against Olney Central College. His best performance came against Lake Land College as he registered a season-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. He then posted two consecutive double-doubles to start March recording 15 pts & 13 rebs and 11 pts & 11 rebs.

Tyrese Lacey, Hoopsfix All-Star Classic 2024 MVP, is having a fantastic season with the Falcons. The guard dropped multiple double-digit performances in points and assists in February. He scored 17 points in a win over Eastern Florida State College and tallied 12 assists against Indian River State College. His standout game came against Santa Fe Collge, he posted a near triple double with 16 points, nine assists and seven rebound. His side won its third straight Citrus Conference title while Lacey was selected First Team All Conference.

Eben Effah had the best performance of his season with Temple College against Southwestern Christian College. He registered a dominant double-double performance with 14 points and a season-high 12 rebounds in their victory.

Buai Luak secured a dominant double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds in his first start of the season with Casper College. While he only featured in two games throughout the month, his side managed four wins in six games. They hold a 22-6 overall record on the season.
