Reacts: Fans considering JJ Redick a Coach of the Year candidate

With the Lakers primed to continue climbing the Western Conference, fans are showing JJ Redick some love for Coach of the Year.

In JJ Redick’s first year as not only the Lakers’ head coach but an NBA coach in general, he has excelled.

Los Angeles is currently sitting in the fifth spot in the West but is just three games away from the second seed.

With 29 games left, if Redick is able to continue maximizing his team’s potential, the possibility of climbing near the top of the NBA is on the table.

In our recent SB Nation Reacts poll, fans acknowledged Redick’s ability to maximize his team’s potential and he received some votes for Coach of the Year.

With 5% of fans thinking he will win Coach of the Year, Redick isn't exactly a frontrunner.

Four other coaches are in front of him and Kenny Atkinson is running away with the fan votes with 50% picking him as the Coach of the Year this season. Still, it’s nice to see Redick’s name getting mentioned and with 5% of the vote, that does place him in the mix.

If the Lakers go on a run during this final stretch of games, perhaps the media members who vote for this award will view him in even higher regard come award season.

If Redick does win Coach of the Year, that would, not only be a tremendous accomplishment, but he would be the first Lakers head coach to do so since Del Harris won it back in 1995.

Minus winning the NBA title, this would be a best-case scenario for Redick in his first season in charge. Let’s see how the rest of the season goes and just how good he can get the Luka Dončić Lakers to be.
