Brits in College Men | January recap

As we step into 2025, it’s time to look back at how British players fared in the NCAA during January.  December saw some standout performances, with players continuing to make their mark across the college basketball landscape.

With conference play now in full swing, January provided an even greater test of their abilities.

Let’s dive into how the Brits performed as the season heats up.

NCAA Division 1

Cam Hildreth dropped a season-high 31-point in Wake Forest‘s win over Miami, going 6/8 from deep. He is having a great season so far and is the second best scorer on the team. The senior guard then posted three consecutive double figure games, including two 20-point games in their five game winning streak. Their only losses in the month came at the hands of Duke and Louisiana. The Deacons are 4th of the ACC conference with a 7-3 record (15-6 overall).

Despite all of Great Osobor‘s efforts, the Washington Huskies ended January on a six-game losing streak, sitting last in the Big Ten standings (2-9; 11-11 overall). Regardless, the senior is impactful on both ends of the floor and is posting impressive numbers.

He had four 20-point games, including two double-doubles (20 pts & 14 rebs; 23 pts & 11 rebs). However, his most notable outing came in a loss against Purdue as he tallied a season-high 28 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while shooting 5/5 from deep.

Even though Washington State struggled to get wins this month, Ethan Price posted solid numbers for his team. The forward dropped three 20-point games, including an all around performance in a win over San Francisco (20 pts, 5 rebs, 4 stls, 2 blks). However, his most impressive outing was his season-high 28 points, eight-rebound outing that came in a narrow OT loss at the hands of Pacific Tigers.

Tobi Lawal is in fantastic form this season. The Junior led Virginia Tech to four wins in eight games through the month. He delivered multiple double figures games, including two 20-point games and three double-doubles. His best performance was a 22-point, 11-rebound outing in a narrow win over NC State.

Latrell Davis is having a great Sophomore season in his role off the bench. While his side managed three wins in seven games in the month, the guard posted three 20-point games, including a 23-point career-high.

Meanwhile his teammate, Josh Uduje is still in fantastic form, and is the main offensive threat for San Jose State. The Senior scored in double figures in almost every games of his team. The guard recorded 21 points in his best outing of the month, while also posting 18 points and two consecutive 12-point games. The Spartans hold a 3-7 conference record, 10-12 overall through January.

James Okonkwo and Akron remained unbeaten throughout eight games in January. In this span, the Senior recorded three double-digit games, including an 11-point outing. He also tied his season-high of 17 points against Eastern Michigan.

Josh Ogundele‘s performances throughout January earned him a regular starting role with Tennessee State. The graduate student posted multiple double figures games, including a 16-point, 7-rebound outing and a 14-point, 8-rebound game. However, his best performance of the month came in a loss against the Redhawks with a 17-point game off the bench. His side held a record of 6-3 in the month.

While Kentucky went 4-3 in the month, Amari Williams impressed while dominating the glass. He ended four games with double figures in rebounds, including a season-high 15-rebound game in one of his three double-doubles in January. In terms of scoring, his best outing was a 15-point game in a win over Florida.

Ben Michaels is having a good freshman year, recordingg three double-digit games throughout the month. He scored a season-high 15-points against Ohio, he then registered 13 points and eight rebounds in a loss. He then scored 12 points in Buffalo’s only win of the month.

Louie Jordan recorded 13 points and six rebounds in a loss against New Hampshire, his best game of the month. His side UMBC have a 3-5 record in their conference (11-12 overall).

Joel Armotrading dropped his first double-double performance of the season with 12 points and a season-high 14-rebounds in a win over UC San Diego. He stayed perfect from the field, going 5/5. UC Riverside are currently third in their conference with a 7-3 record (14-8 overall).

While West Virginia ended the month with a record of 3-5, Eduardo Andre recorded multiple eight-point games. He also grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds in a win over Oklahoma State, his best scoring game was a 12-point outing against Colorado.

Giovanni Emejuru and George Mason are sitting at the top of the A-10 conference (8-1; 17-5 overall). The team ended January on a six-game winning streak. The junior had 11 points in his best outing of the month against St. Bonaventure, he also tallied eight points and eight rebounds earlier in the month against Richmond.

Chudi Dioramma recorded two consecutive 10-point games off the bench for Sacramento State. The freshman and his team only managed two wins in eight games in January while sitting last in their conference (2-6 conf.; 6-15 overall).

Sam Alajiki and Oral Roberts had a tough month of January, ending the month with one win out of eight games. The senior only featured three times for his team in January, coming back from an ankle injury. With minutes restrictions, he recorded nine and eight points in a losses against Denver and Minnesota. His side sits last in their conference with a record of 2-7 (6-16 overall).

Luke Bamgboye posted his best game of the season in a win against Rhode Island tallying six points, nine rebounds, three blocks and four steals. VCU had a 6-game winning streak in January and hold a 6-2 record in the A-10 conference (16-5 overall).

NCAA Division 2

Stephen Ovia had the best game of his season in a tight loss against Frostburg, recording a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double, shooting 11-out-of-14 from the field. The junior also netted 11 and 12 points against Concord and Salem.

Myles Hosten and Edward Waters recorded six wins in seven games throughout the month, holding a 10-3 record in their conference (14-6 overall). His best outing on the period was a season-high 22-point, eight-rebound performance in a win over Fort Valley State. His second notable game was a near double-double game, posting nine points and nine rebounds against Albany State.

Franklin Agu and St. Mary’s are in great form, the team ended January on a nine-game winning streak. The team hold a record of 14-1 in the conference (17-4 overall). In this span, the senior posted four double-digit games, and tied his season-high 13-point, 11-rebound double-double performance against Texas A&M.

Emmanuel Oladeru recorded five consecutive double-digit games to start the month, including a season-high 15-point game in a tight win over West Virginia State. Davis & Elkins held a 3-4 record in January.

After posting amazing numbers since the beginning of the season, Louis Grante-Halliday struggled a bit more offensively in January. The sophomore only scored in double figures once, but he played a massive role in Western Washington‘s win over Western Oregon, tallying 12 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals for an all-around performance.

Richmond Mawutor recorded his second double-double game of the season with SVSU in a win over Roosevelt, posting 11 points and 12 rebounds.

JUCO

Karyiek Dixon started January with a 12-point outing in a loss against Central Missouri. The junior then recorded three consecutive double-digit games, recording a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double performance and then a 14-point game. However, his most memorable performance was a season-high 28-point and six-rebound performance. The forward shot 13/16 from the field in this game, but couldn’t carry Emporia State to the win.

Tyrese Lacey keeps dishing out assists for Daytona State. The Freshman delivered 30 assists in his first three games in January, resulting in two double-doubles (10 pts, 13 asts & 12 pts, 10 asts). In terms of scoring, his best game was a 15-point and seven assist performance in a win over Indian River. The guard is averaging 9.6 points and 8 assists per game. Furthermore, his team remained undefeated in January.

Bryan Akanmu and Vincennes University remained unbeaten across seven games in January. In this stretch, the sophomore recorded five double-digit games. His most notable outing was a double-double performance in a blowout victory over Olney Central College as he tallied 12 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.

Andre Anderson and Harper College ended the month on a five-game losing streak, while his side hold a 4-20 record on the season. However, the Sophomore is having a good season and is averaging 10.2 points per game. In January, he posted three double-digit games, including a 15-point outing against Olive-Harvey College.

Meanwhile, his teammate Sean Spencer recorded a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double in that game, his first of the season. The Freshman then netted 10 points and grabbed seven boards against Milwaukee.
