Luka Doncic really likes the ocean
In a moment of levity at his intro press conference on Tuesday, Luka Dončić talked about how much he likes the ocean.
The Lakers introduced Luka Dončić to the world on Tuesday in a presser full of highlights.
Lakers vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka thanks Nico Harrison for remaining “true to the negotiations” during trade talks after fleecing the Mavericks and Luka fielded plenty of questions on the reports in the days since the trade coming out of Dallas.
But the most important takeaway from the day? Luka really likes the ocean.
While answering a question about whether he wanted to remain in Dallas, Luka called coming to a Los Angeles a “fresh start” before revealing his affinity for the beach.
“I thought I was going to spend my whole career there because I think loyalty is a big word for me and I was trying to stay by that,” Dončić said. “But this, for me, is a fresh start. I get to play in LA. The fans are amazing and I got the ocean here. It’s a really big thing for me. But really, I’m really excited to be here. I get to play for the Lakers.
“Not everybody can say that and many, many legends have passed through here, many, many championships, so that’s my goal.”

Honestly, I can’t blame him. Texas has appealing aspects to it, but going from Dallas to Los Angeles is a pretty big upgrade. Instead of rodeos or cow wrangling or whatever people do for fun in Texas, he can now spend time on the beach instead.
Seeing his excitement to not just be in LA and around beaches but to play for the Lakers, who he repeatedly referred to as the greatest club in the world — to borrow some verbiage from European soccer culture — it should have fans of the purple and gold really excited about what the future holds.
