Duke Falls At NC State, 89-83
As the Blue Devils returns to the magical Reynolds Coliseum
Duke certainly held its own for most of the game against NC State in Reynolds Coliseum Monday night, but the Pack came back and claimed an 89-83 win, breaking a five-game win streak by the Blue Devils.
NC State led after the first quarter, 24-17, but Duke caught up by halftime, 43-32.
The Blue Devils maintained a lead into the fourth, but State gradually caught up, pulling ahead at 70-68 with 6:01 to go.
Duke took the lead back at 71-70 on a Taina Mair three but never led again as the Pack pulled away for the win.
State’s Aziaha James had a tremendous game with 36 points on 15-19/2-5 from the floor.
Mair and Ashlon Jackson led Duke with 21 and 22 points respectively and Toby Fournier had 11 off the bench. Jadyn Donovan had 10 rebounds.
At times this season, Duke has verged on freakish success with forcing turnovers, but that wasn’t for this game: the Blue Devils took it away just 11 times.
Duke did shoot well overall, hitting 42.7 percent overall and 45.8 percent from deep. The Devils might have won if they had shot better than 8-16 from the free throw line.
With the loss, Duke falls to 17-5 and 8-2 in the ACC. Next up will be Clemson at home on Thursday.
