NFL Black Monday 2025: Every head coach fired
Teams are making huge changes at the end of the 2024 NFL regular season, starting with the New England Patriots
The 2024 NFL regular season has come to a close.
While 14 teams still have Super Bowl dreams, the other 18 have turned their eyes to the offseason.
For some of those teams, that begins with a change at head coach.
Last week we outlined the teams that might make a head coach change, but here we will track all the firings on NFL’s Black Monday, and beyond.
Doug Pederson fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars
Swirling rumors about Doug Pederson’s future made it equally likely he would either be out in Jacksonville, or return in 2025 — but ultimately the organization decided to pull the plug.

Pederson’s tenure in Jacksonville ends after three season and a 22-29 record, including 18 losses in the last 23 games. pic.twitter.com/MfAayhTcQz
The most astonishing thing about Pederson being axed is that the organization is choosing to retain GM Trent Baalke, who is equally (or perhaps more) to blame for the team’s struggles than the head coach.
Now we sit as Baalke leads a coaching search. Hug a Jags fan today, because this is their personal nightmare.
Jerod Mayo fired after one season in New England
Black Monday got off to an early start.
Jerod Mayo and the New England Patriots won their season finale, knocking off the Buffalo Bills. But that win cost the Patriots the first-overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, and apparently it did not save Mayo his job.
After just one season in charge, Mayo has been fired as the head coach of the Patriots:

New England finished 4-13 this season. There is confidence in New England that Drake Maye is the long-term answer at the quarterback position, so it will be interesting if the Patriots look for an offensive-minded head coach to aid his development, or make a move for another former player: Mike Vrabel.
Antonio Pierce fired by Las Vegas Raiders
On Tuesday the Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce after his first full season in charge.

Raiders now have gone from Jon Gruden, who resigned in 2021, to Josh McDaniels, who was fired in 2023, to firing Pierce in 2025. pic.twitter.com/qoYaOyV4Us
This means when the Raiders hire their next head coach, they will be paying four head coaches. The team is still paying Jon Gruden, Josh McDaniels, and now Pierce.
