McLaren Racing completes purchase of Arrow McLaren IndyCar team
Ahead of the 2025 IndyCar season, McLaren Racing completed their purchase of Arrow McLaren
McLaren Racing announced on Friday that the team has acquired full ownership of Arrow McLaren, the team’s entry in the NTT IndyCar Series, finalizing their buyout of the team from Sam Schmidt and Ric Peterson. McLaren Racing first purchased a stake in the IndyCar team back in 2021.
“This is an exciting step for McLaren Racing as we grow and strengthen our presence in North America, which is a very important market for our team and our fans,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown. “Sam Schmidt and Ric Peterson have been great partners and co-owners, and I want to thank them as we continue to build what they started many years ago, and that is a championship caliber NTT INDYCAR SERIES team.”
Arrow McLaren enjoyed a successful 2024 campaign with a trio of wins, all coming from Pato O’Ward. O’Ward captured the win in the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, as well as wins at the Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, and the first race at the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250.
O’Ward finished a heart-breaking second in the Indianapolis 500, with teammate Alexander Rossi finishing fourth.
The team announced last summer that O’Ward will be joined by Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel for the 2025 IndyCar season.
On the Formula 1 side of things, McLaren captured their first Constructors’ Championship since 1998 this season.
The 2025 IndyCar series begins on March 2 with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
