How to Watch the 2024 WNBA Expansion Draft

Golden State Valkyries General Manager Ohemaa Nyanin, left, announces their new head coach Natalie Nakase, formerly a first assistant coach with the 2-time WNBA Champions, the Las Vegas Aces, at Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Nakase joined the Aces in February 2022 to help head coach Beck Hammon led their team to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023 as well as the 2022 Commissioner’s Cup title. The Golden State Valkyries will be drafting on December 6th

On December 6th, the Golden State Valkyries will finally be putting their roster together for the 2025 WNBA season.

In September, the WNBA explained how the expansion draft will work:

Per an article published by ESPN, “Ahead of the Dec. 6 announcement of the draft results on ESPN, each current team has until Monday to submit a list of up to six protected players, including both those who finished the season on their roster and all others to whom the team holds rights.”

The Valkyries also posted a graphic on the expansion draft process in September.

Notable projected unprotected players on ESPN’s list include Diamond DeShields, Myisha Hines-Allen, Courtney Vandersloot, Sydney Colson, Megan Gustafson, Kia Nurse, Monique Billings, and Stephanie Dolson.

The expansion draft will take place at 6:30 PM ET — that’s 3:30 PM PT for most of you reading this — and will be broadcast on ESPN.

An extensive FAQ about the expansion draft can be found on the WNBA’s website.
