Duke closes out the home slate at Wally Wade Saturday against Virginia Tech. Duke is currently 7-3/3-3. The Hokies are 5-5 and also 3-3 in the ACC.

There was a time when Virginia Tech would be an automatic and huge favorite and apparently some services see them as the favorite.

It’s no lock though.

Manny Diaz has gotten Duke believing and the Blue Devils have become an excellent defensive team and, occasionally, a pretty good offensive team as well.

The Hokies rely on running back Bhayshul Tuten, who is racking up 6.5 yard per carry. Kyron Drones is a competent QB, but with a back that productive, he’s not nearly as critical as most quarterbacks are.

This looks like it could primarily be a defensive struggle. Former Blue Devil Aeneas Peebles is having a big year for the Hokies and he’s dangerous, not least of all to quarterbacks.

It won’t surprise us if it’s a low-scoring, close game. If Duke can pull off a win here, and one at Wake Forest next week, the Blue Devils have a chance at a 10-win season. It just doesn’t happen very often in Durham.
