The Cavaliers will be playing on a wine-themed court for their home NBA Cup games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will have two home games in the NBA Cup (In-Season Tournament) this season with the possibility of a third in the quarterfinals if they advance and are the higher seed.

Unlike last year, this special court doesn’t have the stripe down the middle, but it is just as colorful. This year’s court is wine-colored and will feature two Cavs V-net logos. This is in addition to the three NBA Cup trophies that have a similar V shape to them. The Cavs will be wearing their black uniforms on these courts.

Other teams have decided to go a different route with their courts. Some, including the Lakers, chose to feature their skyline. The Cavs have done that with some of their courts in the past and I wouldn’t have minded them going that route again.

Additionally, I’m not sure if the wine color court is too bright. Last year, some of the more colorful courts, like the Philadelphia 76ers’ red floor, caused bright reflections that were a little distracting. The wine may be more muted so it doesn’t cause that, but it’s something to consider.

From a league-wide perspective, the courts are overall an upgrade over what they used last year for the In-Season Tournament. That said, I prefer last season’s court more for the Cavs. I liked the script for “The Land” and I thought the color of the court was different, but not too loud.

The Cavaliers will use the wine court on Nov. 15 against the Chicago Bulls and Dec. 3 against the Washington Wizards. Their other NBA Cup group play games are on the road against the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics.
