With a new season comes new Lakers threads, and the franchise has revealed this year’s City Edition jerseys.

We’ve seen leaked images of the Lakers City Edition jersey, but on Tuesday, the Lakers officially unveiled it along with details about the first time we will see them play in these new kits.

The jersey will be paired with the first-ever City Edition court, with both being seen for the first time on Nov. 21 when the Lakers face the Orlando Magic.

The jersey has the tagline “California Destiny,” which has a nice ring. In an official press release regarding the phrase, the team stated it’s an iteration of last year’s theme, “California Destiny.”

“Dubbed the “California Destiny” uniform, this season’s City Edition design builds on the team’s 2023-24 “California Dream” City Edition uniform that celebrated the Lakers beginning in Los Angeles. The “California Destiny” progresses the story to recognize what the team has become: a combination of elite basketball IQ and electrifying presentation.”

City Edition jerseys will be available in stores and online on Nov. 14 for purchase.

Seeing the official version and how it looks on the players is an improvement from the leaks, but ultimately, it’s still a bold and rough design.

The transition from black to purple is rough and while the words “Lake Show” and the Bibigo sponsorship pops, it does for all the wrong reasons. There’s a way to balance being bold and beautiful instead of loud and obnoxious and this seems like more of the latter than the former.

Perhaps the pairing of the City Edition court creates a nice balance that is pleasant on the eyes and a joy to watch on your screen. The Lakers also shared the court design on their Twitter account, but even so, you need to see it in use with your own eyes to understand how good or bad it truly is.

The good news is that regardless of your thoughts, they will change it again next year, so if you love these jerseys and courts, you are in for a treat. If it makes you nauseous, then just bear with it for a handful of games and next year, Nike will take a crack at this again.

Hopefully, we can soon return to something closer to the gorgeous City Edition jerseys we got back during the NBA’s 75th anniversary cause these ones aren’t it.
