First French Female Astronaut Cries ‘EARTH MUST BE WARNED!’ Before Attempting Suicide

0 2

Astronauts went out there and saw strange things that took a toll on their lives. Claudie Haigneré is one of them.

The incident took place in 2008 but was once again brought into attention by the controversial death of Max Spiers. Spiers was a British UFO investigator who was found dead on a friend’s couch after texting his mother that she should start an investigation if anything happened to him. It seems that those who encounter or pursue extraterrestrials are destined to get in trouble.

Claudie Haigneré is a French doctor and politician but prior to that, she was an astronaut. In 1996, Claudie and her husband, Jean-Pierre Haigneré spent more than two weeks aboard the Russian MIR space station.

Having studied rheumatology and neuroscience, Claudie’s outer space research aimed to provide insights about how astronauts...

An asteroid the size of a truck is set to pass close to Earth on Thursday, one of the closest encounters ever recorded, according to NASA. The asteroid, named 2023 BU and recently discovered by an amateur astronomer, is scheduled to fly by the southern tip of South America at around 4:27 pm PST on Thursday (0027 GMT Friday).

NASA also said that it will pass just 2,200 miles (3,600 kilometers) from Earth’s surface, closer than many geostationary satellites orbiting the planet. However, there is no risk of the asteroid hitting Earth, NASA said in a statement. Even if it did, the asteroid, measuring between 3.5-8.5 meters (11-28 feet) in diameter, would largely disintegrate in the Earth’s atmosphere and might only result in a few small meteorites.A diagram showing 2023 BU’s trajectory in red during its close approach with Earth, and the orbit of geosynchronous satellites, shown in green. The asteroid was first spotted on Saturday from an observatory in Crimea by amateur astronomer Gennadiy Borisov, who also discovered an interstellar comet in 2019. Observatories around the world conducted dozens of observations after the asteroid was discovered. NASA’s Scout impact hazard assessment system quickly determined that the asteroid would miss Earth.

Despite the limited observations, it was able to predict that the asteroid would make an exceptionally close approach with Earth, said Davide Farnocchia, who helped develop Scout. This is one of the closest encounters by a known near-Earth object ever recorded. The asteroid’s trajectory around the Sun will be significantly altered as a result of the close encounter. Previously, it took the asteroid 359 days to orbit the Sun, but now it will take 425 days, NASA said.Astronomers have seen a huge star explode in a fiery supernova for the first time ever. The event was even more spectacular than the scientists had expected.

According to a new study published in the Astrophysical Journal on January 6, scientists began watching SN 2020tlf, a red supergiant 120 million light-years away from Earth, more than 100 days before its last, catastrophic collapse. During this time, the scientists witnessed the star erupting with bright flashes of light and huge balls of gas shooting out of its surface.

These pre-supernova pyrotechnics came as a big surprise, as previous observations of red supergiants about to blow their tops showed no traces of violent emissions, the researchers said.An artist’s rendition of a red supergiant star transitioning into a Type II supernova, emitting a violent eruption of radiation and gas on its dying breath before collapsing and exploding. (Image credit: W. M. Keck Observatory/Adam Makarenko)

When big stars go boom

In terms of volume, red supergiants are the largest stars in the universe, measuring hundreds or even thousands of times the radius of the sun. (Despite their bulk, red supergiants are not the brightest or most massive stars in the universe.)

Atoms in the cores of these huge stars fuse together to make energy, just like our sun does. On the other hand, red supergiants can make things that are much heavier than the hydrogen and helium that our sun burns. As supergiants burn heavier elements, their cores get hotter and more compact. When these stars start fusing iron and nickel, their cores collapse, and they send their gassy outer atmospheres into space in a type II supernova explosion, they run out of energy.Scientists have observed red supergiants before they go supernova and studied the aftermath of these cosmic explosions, but they have never witnessed the entire process in real time until now.

The new study’s authors began observing SN 2020tlf in the summer of 2020, when the star flickered with bright flashes of radiation, which they later interpreted as gas exploding off the star’s surface. The researchers tracked the cranky star for 130 days using two telescopes in Hawaii: the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy Pan-STARRS1 telescope and the W. M. Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea. Finally, at the end of that time, the star exploded.Researchers found evidence that a dense cloud of gas was surrounding the star at the time of its explosion. This cloud of gas was probably the same gas that the star had been giving off in the months before its explosion. This shows that huge explosions started long before the core of the star broke apart in the fall of 2020.

These observations suggest that red supergiants undergo significant changes in their internal structures, resulting in chaotic explosions of gas in their final months before collapsing, the team concluded.According to a new study, the swirling solid ball at the center of Earth’s inner core appears to have recently paused and may even now be rotating in the opposite direction.

A pair of Chinese scientists have been studying seismic wave data from earthquakes that have blasted through the Earth’s inner core to investigate the movements of the mysterious innards.

They can learn about what’s going on within Earth’s inner layers by observing changes in these waves, which are far deeper than any drills or instruments can reach. Their data shows the evolution of seismic waves over many decades, beginning with Alaskan records in the early 1960s and ending with recordings collected in 2021.

The data showed that parts of the core that had previously shown clear signs of variation suddenly showed very little variation around 2009, implying that the inner core rotation paused.

They also detected significant changes in the waves beginning around the early 1970s, indicating that this pause was part of an oscillation that occurs every seven decades or so, when the inner core gradually reverses direction. The inner workings of the Earth are a mystery. Its structure is divided into four major layers: the outer crust, the mostly-solid mantle, the liquid metal outer core, and the final inner core made of iron and nickel.

Because the liquid outer core separates the inner core from the rest of the solid Earth, it can rotate at a different rate than the Earth’s surface. The magnetic field generated in the liquid metal outer core, as well as the gravitational effects of the mantle, govern the spin of the inner core.

However, theories about the movement of this inner core differ. Many researchers previously believed that the planet’s innermost geological layer rotates at a slightly faster rate than the rest of the planet, but this is now thought to be less straightforward.

Last year, research suggested that the Earth’s inner core oscillates, gently swaying and swirling in a cycle. Interestingly, they discovered some unusual data from the early 1970s, which is similar to the new study.

The results revealed that the inner core moved slowly in a different direction between 1969 and 1971, sub-rotating at least a tenth of a degree per year, compared to the direction it moved between 1971 and 1974.

"From our findings, we can see the Earth’s surface shifts compared to its inner core, as people have asserted for 20 years," John E. Vidale, study co-author and Dean’s Professor of Earth Sciences at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, said in a statement in 2022. "However, our latest observations show that the inner core spun slightly slower from 1969-71 and then moved the other direction from 1971-74."

Although the strange motions of the Earth’s core may appear to be far away from us, their effects on life above the surface are real.

The magnetic field of the planet is influenced by Earth’s core, specifically its outer core. The North Magnetic Pole has moved 2,250 kilometers (1,400 miles) across the upper reaches of the Northern Hemisphere from Canada to Siberia since it was first scientifically documented in the early nineteenth century.

The rate of this movement increased from less than 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) per year between 1990 and 2005 to around 50 to 60 kilometers (31 to 37 miles) per year. This flux is most likely the result of two magnetic "blobs" of molten material in the planet’s interior, which caused a titanic shift of its magnetic field.
