Oliver Bearman makes F1 history at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

In his debut for Haas, Oliver Bearman accomplished something F1 has never seen before

Here is an answer to a potential trivia question for you to file away, dear reader.

The first driver ever to score points for two different teams in his first two Grand Prix starts?

Oliver Bearman.

Bearman accomplished the feat Sunday in the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finishing in tenth place driving for Haas. Bearman was driving for the team in place of Kevin Magnussen, who was forced to sit out the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and serve a one-race ban after receiving a penalty — and two penalty points — after a collision with Pierre Gasly at the Italian Grand Prix.

That penalty brought Magnussen’s total penalty points to 12, triggering the one-race ban.

However, this was not Bearman’s first F1 Grand Prix of the season. Back in March he stepped into the SF-24 typically occupied by Carlos Sainz Jr. at Ferrari, when the Spanish driver was sidelined due to an emergency appendectomy. In his Ferrari — and F1 — debut Bearman finished seventh, holding off Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton down the stretch for that result.

Points for Ferrari in his F1 debut, and then points for Haas in his debut for the team Sunday in Baku:

Bearman will be back in that Haas on a full-time basis next year, as the team announced earlier this season that he earned a promotion to F1 with the team, and will drive alongside Esteban Ocon in 2025.
