Three-star Preston Edmead commits to Hofstra

Preston Edmead, a three-star New York native in the Class of 2025, has committed to Hofstra, his dad told ZAGSBLOG Monday.

The 6-foot point guard out of the Williston Northampton School (PA.) and the New York Rens also held offers from UMass, Seton Hall, Iona and San Diego, among others.

“I really built a strong connection with the Hofstra staff, and I know when I get there, they’re really gonna get me better,” he told ZAGSBLOG. :And I can bring leadership, toughness, and ultimately just being a winner.”

“[There were] three reasons,” his dad John Edmead told ZAGSBLOG on the commitment. “The play style, a history of great guards and we love Speedy Claxton.”

Hofstra’s most recent point guard sensation was Tyler Thomas, who was the back-to-back CAA Player of the Year in 2023 and 2024 and is now playing professionally in Hungary.

In terms of play style, Edmead has an excellent feel for the game, controlling pace, organizing the floor and leading on the defensive end. He is a strong playmaker and seems to make the right reads out of the pick and roll. His shot making has improved as well, hitting difficult finishes at the rim and off balanced jumpers to boot.

“Preston plays with a great pace in transition and in the half-court,” NY Rens assistant Dan McGinley said. “He knows when to get to his spots in ball-screen actions, but also does a great job getting others involved. He has had games where he takes over as a scorer and facilitator. A high basketball IQ always translates to the next level, and Preston has exactly that.”
