Scottie Scheffler easily leads by 5 with 18 holes to go at the Tour Championship 

Scheffler recorded another strong round at East Lake as 18 holes stand between him and his first Tour Championship win.

Scottie Scheffler looks like a man on a mission at the Tour Championship. He recorded a 5-under 66 for the second day in a row to sit at 26-under overall and hold a five-shot lead over Collin Morikawa.

Scheffler opened his day with a bogey, but he kept it clean after that.

He recorded six birdies, including four in his last five holes. However, he only called the day “solid.”

“I had a really good finish, but overall, I did some stuff pretty well out there today. It was nice to finish the way that I did,” Scheffler said.

The former Texas Longhorn has 18 holes to go as he looks to win for the seventh time in 2024. It has been a historic year for the 28-year-old, and he continues to add to his resume.

He most recently won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Before that, he won at the Travelers in June, taking four of the eight Signature Events.

Scheffler has been in this spot before. He entered Atlanta No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings the past two years. However, he has not gotten over the hump.

Last year, the 12-time PGA Tour winner shot a 73-70 in the final 36 holes while Viktor Hovland took the lead and kept it.

In 2022, Scheffler shot a final-round 73 to fall to Rory McIlroy after he went 65-66-66 in the first three days. Scheffler has shot identical scores in 2024, but what will it take for him to get over the hump and claim his first Tour Championship?

“Keep doing what I’ve been doing, staying in the moment, staying patient out there,” he said. “Both times when I bogeyed the first hole, I didn’t make any bogeys after that, so that’s good momentum for me. I feel like I’ve done a lot of stuff well and played solid, so I’m looking forward to trying to finish off the tournament tomorrow.”

He and Morikawa will play together again for the final round. They tee off at 1:05 p.m. ET. Scheffler has given himself a good cushion ahead of the final 18, but he will still need another strong round if he wants to finish the FedEx Cup season with $25 million more in his bank account.
